Phoenix Nursery is a highly recommended family owned day nursery established in 1984 by the late Louise Gray (also known as Sister Gray), the mother of the nursery manager, Claire. Located in Stevenage in Hertfordshire, we offer unique care as a mixed age family feel nursery.

For parents, the most important thing is being able to drop your child off at nursery knowing that your child is happy, secure and will be well cared for. At Phoenix Nursery we focus on nurturing happy, confident, curious and caring learners. Most families hear about us through local recommendation and we pride ourselves on our excellent reputation among the local schools for the social and academic readiness of all our children. We are an Ofsted registered day nursery for 10 months – 5 year olds and offer flexible full time or part time day care. Due to high demand we recommend you register your interest early to ensure your child can become part of the Phoenix Nursery family. Baby spaces are very popular and limited, for more information please check out our Baby Section.

Why Choose Phoenix Nursery Stevenage?

At Phoenix Nursery we deliver a nurturing environment that incorporates a balance of structure and exploration as the first step in your child’s educational journey. Through our effective outdoor classroom and the surrounding woodlands our children are provided with plenty of fresh air, space, nature and exercise throughout their days at nursery. The children love to go on walks and explore the nature that surrounds us, in addition to participating in music and movement sessions learning to keep fit and move with coordination. Children benefit from regular cooking sessions, yoga lessons and forest school sessions. Children are encouraged to be active and learn about healthy lifestyles.

We are very fortunate to be located close by to Fairlands Valley Lakes, a local attraction which we regularly use as an extension to the setting, for woodland walks and forest school sessions. This is crucial for the children’s learning as they experience their local community and develop a wider context of the world around them. Our children also love to visit the local shops, market and library as part of planned small group experiences.

The quality and retention of our staff sets us apart from other nurseries. At Phoenix Nursery we are believe that it is vital that your children are cared for by practitioners who are qualified and experienced to provide the very best for them. That’s why we go beyond and above Ofsted minimum requirements and we are very proud that four members of our small team have completed their BA degree in Education and Early Years. Our highly experienced team is made up of warm, professional and motivated practitioners who ensure your child’s first steps towards education start in the best possible way. We offer high quality care and education which ensures our children attain their full potential. For more about our team see the About Phoenix section

Our setting provides the unique benefit of a shared learning experience for the children aged 10 months to 5 years old through the two large open plan rooms which helps foster a sense of community within the nursery. We also provide a separate private room for children under 2 years old which is used as required. Our children very quickly settle into our small but secure setting with a demonstrable feeling of being part of an extended, close knit family and happy environment
